Getting to see our babies grow up into adult goldendoodles is one of the best parts of our job. Every few days we receive a text or an email with pictures and an update on one of our puppies. Around the dinner table at night I share the pictures and stories with my children and they are as happy as I am to find out how the babies are doing. As you can see, puppies change quite a bit as they grow up.
Coat Changes
Doodle puppies almost always get wavier or curlier and lighter as they grow. As a matter of fact, it is uncommon for puppies to go through 0ne or more coat changes as they grow. Most coat changes happen first around 9 months but sometimes puppies as early as 4 months change or even as late as 4 years!
Temperament is Key!
It is important to remember that when you choose your new puppy, your first concern should be the temperament of the puppy and how the puppy will fit in with your family. Although it is tempting to pick the cutest puppy of the bunch, looks will change so much that they may or may not mature into what you thought they might look like. A puppy’s temperament, however, is set by 8 weeks of age and rarely changes. If you pick a puppy based on a temperament that suits your lifestyle you will rarely be disappointed!
So… how do you pick based on temperament? A key to knowing what your adult goldendoodle will be like is to lean on temperament test results. Regal Doodles tests every puppy using the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test when they are 7 weeks old. This tests puppies for a number of different personality traits and then Regal Doodles will help you pick the best personality for you and your family. Above all else, temperament is key!
